Here are some simple ways to conserve energy:
- Turn off the lights when you leave the room. (You won't waste as much electricity and money.)
- Use natural light if possible. ( Electricity costs money!)
- Take shorter showers. (Hot water is expensive, if 2 people in your home cut their shower time by 1 minute you could save up to $30 a year.)
- Turn off the water while brushing your teeth. (Water costs money, and there are places in the world where they are running out so let's not take it for granted.)
- Unplug unused electronics. (unused electronics can account for about 10% of a house's electricity use every year.)
- Manage you thermostat. ( Lowering your thermostat by only a couple degrees can save you money on your heating bill.)
- Run full loads of laundry. (By only running full loads you will not waste as much water.)
- Wash laundry in cold water. (Hot water is expensive, and cold water is better for your clothes.)
- Hang dry your laundry if you can. (Even if you just lay certain towels or blankets out in the sun to dry, you won't have to use electricity to dry them.)
- Use the microwave, crock pot, or toaster instead of the oven. ( A microwave can cook something is 15 minutes that an oven would take an hour to cook.)
- Make a bucket to collect rain water (you can use that water for a number of things, for example: watering your garden, instead of having to use the house water that you pay for).
- Use energy efficient light bulbs. (You'll save money on electricity!)
